About Richard

Richard is Head of Cyber & Technology and is responsible for directing and leading the underwriting strategy for Cyber & Technology Errors & Omissions at Probitas 1492.  Richard joined Probitas in 2022 to launch their cyber portfolio which is their first new line of business since the start of the syndicate in 2015.

Richard brings his specialism in threat-based and geopolitical cyber risks, with extensive experience underwriting a wide range of industry verticals – including finance, technology and professional services, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and e-commerce.  The appetite ranges from SME to Fortune 500 clients.

He is an effective team builder and fosters close relationships with clients, risk partners and brokers.  He has a keen interest in modernising the market; building transparent and efficient risk transfer solutions for clients underpinned with technology and data analytics.

Richard joined the insurance market in 2010 with Watkins Syndicate, with various underwriting roles focusing on threat-based risk including Marine War & Piracy, Aviation War and Terrorism. In 2016 Richard jointly launched the cyber portfolio of Munich Re Syndicate, establishing the company as a leading market and Consortium leader before joining Probitas.

Richard is ACII qualified and holds a BA (Hons) 2:1 in Modern History. He has represented companies on the Lloyd’s Market Association’s Cyber Committee and has been a mentor for the Insurtech incubator platform Lloyd’s Lab
