As Head of Underwriting Management, Martin oversees the Underwriting Control and Governance framework to ensure that the Syndicate is adhering to Lloyd’s regulatory standards, Probitas’ underwriting processes and the business plan. Reporting to Antony Dodson, Martin also oversees the Delegated Authority & Conduct side of the business.
Responsible for the overall underwriting management, Martin ensures that Probitas can sustainably underwrite risk with adequate oversight and process. As underwriting has become increasingly more technical and regulated, it is important that the controls and processes in place are automated and can support the underwriters and business stakeholders without disruption to the process or the market dynamic.
To succeed, Probitas must demonstrate to regulators and investors their adequacy to monitor underwriting. In turn, underwriters must operate efficiently and with discipline to deliver value in an incredibly competitive market. Martin ensures that all areas are supported in delivering on their requirements and are doing so in compliance with all regulations.
Before joining Probitas, Martin spent 5 years at StarStone Insurance as Deputy Active Underwriter, where he created and maintained the Underwriting Control framework for the Group including a Lloyd’s Syndicate, Company Market, and admitted and non-admitted US carrier. Whilst at StarStone, he was also company liaison for all other functions into the Underwriting units and acted as Change Manager for the underwriting systems and processes. Martin has also worked at Willis (now Willis Towers Watson) in the FINEX team (Financial and Professional Lines), as well as at a small MGA where he was responsible for business and product development.
